New District 1 Captain
Congratulations to Rob Thiel who was named as the Captain of District One last month. He had previously served as a lieutenant in the Milwaukee Police Department since 2018, and then served as Acting Captain of District One since late 2022 prior to his official promotion. The Future of I-794
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation shared conceptual plans for a reimagined I-794. WisDot’s presentation is linked here, which shows various renderings for the six ideas that include improving the freeway to increase land for development, removing the bridges completely and rebuilding I-794 as it stands. If you are interested in learning more about the future of I-794, a panel discussion is being held on Monday, July 17 at Marquette University’s O’Brien Hall. Harley-Davidson Homecoming
Harley-Davidson’s 120th Anniversary and Homecoming takes place from July 13 to July 16, featuring events located throughout all of Wisconsin including performances by Green Day and the Foo Fighters at Veterans park. Countless other events take place throughout the city, including the motorcycle parade venturing throughout downtown Milwaukee on Sunday, July 16, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For more details, check out the full event schedule and see the full parade route here.

Conventions and Visitors
July will be a busy month for downtown businesses! With two more weekends of Summerfest, followed by the Harley-Davidson 120th Anniversary and Homecoming celebrations from July 13 to 16 and the Northwestern Mutual 143rd Annual Meeting from July 23 to 25, expect to see plenty of visitors patronizing downtown’s hotels, restaurants, shops and event venues. The Downtown Plan: 2040
Led by the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Downtown, Bid #21, the final Downtown Plan for 2040 was released to the public. Key goals identified in the plan include growing the downtown population by 40,000 by 2040, add around 15,000 housing units downtown and grow Downtown jobs to 100,000 by 2040. In addition to these goals, Milwaukee residents can expect many improvements to locations across Milwaukee. To view the full plan for yourself, click here!

Now Open: The Trade Hotel & Restaurants
Located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, The Trade, an autograph collection hotel has recently opened, along with three restaurants located on the hotel’s premises. Milwaukee residents can visit Craft, a gastropub concept, to get a taste of a variety of breakfast and dinner options. Milwaukee residents can also get a drink at Solomon’s, a bar and lounge that features an open balcony located within the lounge.
